Week 16 Post

This is the last post for the class. This video is dedicated to our COM 104 teacher. It shows the glory and beauty of the Dominican Republic, the place from which the professor hails. This may not be a scholastic post, however I figure it would be a fitting tribute to a professor who inspired us all to excel in the ever-growing world of video production. Bravo professor. Bravo.

Week 15 Post

Tis video showcases the ESPN Monday Night Football HD Production Truck. Chapter Fifteen mentioned the Remote Truck and this is just that. It contains a 5.1 Surround Mixer, a bunch of small monitors, ample space behind the editing stations, audio mixers and more. In this particular video, the team is prepping for the X Games. The beauty of this remote truck, or any remote truck, is that it brings the studio into the field for a faster and better production.

Week 14 Post

Chapter 14 is about the studio environment and how it's setup and put to use. The video is posted is created by a man named Dave Dugdale. Albeit an amateur studio setup, it is a basic understanding of studio creation and use by an average joe in his basement, rec-room, garage or wherever Dave decided to create this do-it-yourself studio. He explains the sound setup, lighting setup and everything else associated with creation of a studio for film use. So press play and listen to ol Dave Dugdale tell his tale.

Week 13 Post

Chapter 13 asks us why we edit, and how the basic principles of editing are accomplished. This video shows the basic use of an editing program called, Final Cut Pro. It is a fantastic program that can allow the editor to accomplish dreams, if he or she knows how. With a program as versatile, easy to use and accessible as this, it's no wonder Final Cut Pro is the most popular editing program on the market. This simple video-tutorial will inspire the would-be-editor in their daunting task of post-film manipulation.

Week 12 Post

Okay, this video is pretty long (and it's only Part One) but it is very interesting and cool to watch. Why? Because the host of this video is describing and illustrating the history of linear editing and its transformation into nonlinear editing. Watching the history of it all is, videos included, is very cool and intriguing. The text doesn't contain all of this information and history. It's a fun video to watch which makes it that much more attractive to someone like myself. Enjoy.

Week 11 Post

Okay, so this guy walks around this studio and seems to be going nuts because these camcorders record without using tape. So he's walking around like a bumbling tape-searching buffoon and asking people about these tapeless recording systems. The guy who is describing things is the part of the video that I wanted to showcase. He is talking about the technicalities, specs and pros of tapeless recording.

Week 10 Post

In lieu of Chapter 10, I decided to look up a video tutorial about basic operation of a switcher. Reading about the essential switcher alone may seem complicated and overwhelming. However, watching a video of some dude pressing, flipping and sliding things on the switcher can help make one understand its operation and use.

This particular switcher looks like it was used in the production of I Dream of Jeannie back in the 60's. But what do I know. It could be a state-of-the-art switcher that is meant to look like it was recently bought from Johnny McGillicutty's garage sale and dusted off for the making of this video.

Either way, I hope whoever actually watches this video learns a thing or two.

Week 9 Post

This video displays the use of the magical ChromaKey and it's simply amazing. It can transport you anywhere. It can transport anywhere to you. It can place objects anywhere and make the viewer believe anything you want him or her to believe. For the viewer, it's real. Actors are really put to the test of their abilities when all they have is a green screen to perform against. It saves studios money in travel costs. It creates things via computer and one's imagination and transforms an image or video production into something spectacular.

Week 8 Post

This is a cool video that I found when I typed in, "Evolution of Cinema". This video was one of the top viewed videos that I found and I find it interesting and creative. If you're interested in film or how it began then this is a rather short explanation to slightly wet the appetite. Using imagery to explain something is a plus. Also, the video creator isn't too shabby of a sketch artist and it makes this video entertaining as well as informative. Enjoy.

Week 7 Post

In lieu of this week's chapter I decided to post a video about the basics of setting up an audio mixer. There are a bunch of wires to input and a bunch of ports to put them into. It's rather simple once you understand the basics of it. If you can't hook up your own home stereo then this video will probably make you feel sick, so you should probably go back and look at that Sony surround system manual a few more times over and understand what you're doing before you watch a vid like this.

I went to school (briefly) for Audio Engineering so i found this chapter to be a breeze and this video to depict exactly what I was doing in class. We held class in a studio. It was cool.

If you sit through the entirety of this vid (a mind-blowing 15 minutes) then you will have the basic understanding of how to hook up an audio mixer like this one.

Enjoy.

Week 6 Post

Okay, so we are now directed to change our posts within our Blogs so I decided to post this small clip about Cory Booker entitled, "Who is Cory Booker?" It's short and simple. It is posted by The New York Times and gives an extremely brief description of the runner-up for senator of our glorious Garden State of New Jersey. With all of the election hoopla fluttering around the news, radio and social networking sites I deemed this an appropriate topic for a post.

Week 5 Post

There's this old movie about Buffalo's apparently (the entire film is actually on YouTube) and some genius made this gem and posted it to YouTube. It makes me laugh every time. It once again shows the glory of the Internet and how just about anyone can take an old movie and make it into something completely different. Go ahead...watch it. You'll laugh at the ridiculousness of it all and wish you had a buffalo of your own to ride.

Week 4 Blog

This is my dog, Nucky, when he was about 2 months or so old. This is his first time experiencing the mysterious cold, powdery white stuff. A total amateur vid-taker held the phone the wrong way while taking the video. Its been about 10 months since and he hasn't grown all that much. His ears perked up and he likes to go hiking with me and he likes to run around like a maniac in my apartment.

His name was derived from the character, "Nucky Thompson" from HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The character portrays Enoch "Nucky" Johnson. I loved the show so much that I bought and read the book about Nucky and Atlantic City's birth, failure and rebirth. My dog wears a metal carnation on his collar as the real person wore a carnation on his lapel.

This is a great version of a great jam by the young and talented Mac Miller. It's difficult to break down a majority of hip hop music like this, but this kid pulls it out nicely with this one. The vid makes it even that much more sweet because it has a bunch of these dudes jamming out with the drums, synth, bass and turntables. The lyrics are good in this song except for the line, "Who do you call to give the coup a wash?" I mean, is that an inside joke or is that some sort of double entendre that flew over my big head? Who knows.

This video always makes me laugh. I loved Jurassic Park as a kid and I find it funny how people manipulate vid's nowadays with current technology. YouTube is great for finding funny and ridiculous manipulations. Granted...some are lame, but every now and then you'll find a gem like this one and laugh and laugh and laugh.

Throne of Matters

One day, the strange idea hit me to combine HBO's, Game of Thrones and the Family Matters opener. I can't rightly recall why I chose the mashup but this is what came out. I edited the video using FinalCut Pro on my Apple laptop. This is by no means an attempt to show off any video editing skills that I may or may not have. This is one of two videos that I've ever made. Enjoy!
